CHIEF MINISTER

Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan, or Comrade V.S. as he is popularly known is the 20th Chief Minister of the state of Kerala. 


Born on
20th October 1923 to Shri. Sankaran, and Smt. Accamma he had an abrupt end in studies and left school at Class VII. But nothing could stop this man from his destined Political and Trade Union Worker and a Polit Bureau member of CPI(M) since 1985.


Though j
oining Congress early in 1938 but gradual disillusionment wielded him to join the CPI and becoming member in 1940. From then till now he is acclaimed as a
rare breed of politician who prefers to be with the plebeians. Being such is a firm believer in the Leninist principle he becomes leader whom people endorse. He first shot in fame in the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising and rose to the national helm while leading agitations against anti people measures of the Governments for years. For struggle, he has been subjected to various state repressions for years. He was instrumental in the ideological division of erstwhile CPI and led 1964 to form the CPI (M). He has adorned as Secretary of the Kerala State Committee of CPI (M) from 1980-1992. Has become MLA in 1967, 1970, 1991 and 2001 and also honored the Leader of Opposition’s chair from 1992 to 1996 and from 2001 till date is the Chief Minister of Kerala. 

Even at this ripen age he is of same youthful exuberance working amongst people. As humanitarian to the core, he always vowed to fight against human misery and continues to struggle against it lifelong. This has made him confident as a Chief Minister too in providing the citizens of the state relief. 


In his personal life he is married to Vasumathi and has two children, Asha and Arun Kumar.
